How to start a game?

NOTE: Diego and I started a brain storming session in January 2020. This article relates the ideas generated in the first couple of brainstorming sessions. The ideas presented here have changed and will continue to change. This article gives insight into where this game came from. Stay tuned for more details in the coming days!

The Idea

CHEESE. Full stop. That is the game. That is all you need to know... if you want more details you can keep reading, but seriously it's just a game about cheese.

We came up with the idea of a village in the woods full of cheeses making cheese. There are some evil dudes running the place. They set up a slave system for their cheese villagers to make more cheese for the overlords to consume. The cheese villagers are not aware that they are being eaten alive or that they are enslaved. Obviously, this ignorance is the only thing that allows the minions to remain under the Overlord's control. Over the course of the game, the player discovers the sinister plan and must figure out how to stop it (original credit for this game goes to my wife).

The Inspiration for the Villains

These are the kind of people our overlords aspire to be.

The Gameplay

The player collects ingredients to create a variety of cheeses.  After the player has enough cheese, they go before the overlord and give him a cheeseboard. The overlord rates the cheeseboard based on his individual tastes. The player must learn what each boss likes in order to get a key item that will allow them to advance in the game. Once they have unlocked all the key items they can make some "Bad"-ass cheeses that will kill each boss. The player wins once they defeat all the bosses.

A clueless player is key to the experience. The player is making cheese in an idyllic village. Then they see one of their cheese friends slaughtered: sliced and diced without mercy. The player switches from producer to revolutionary over night.
